Mother’s day holds a different meaning for each one of us. For some it is filled with hope, love, and joy. For others it brings pain, sorrow, and old memories flooding back. No matter what it means for you, there are people in your life worth celebrating. There are many ways to honor the women in your life without giving them something, but if you are looking for Mother’s Day gift ideas you have come to the right place.
Giving gifts can be hard, but when it’s for a mother it seems to be even more of an insurmountable task. Getting a catch-all gift like a mug, chocolate, and a pair of fuzzy socks just doesn’t seem right. These gifts should be thoughtful, and I don’t know about you, but I hate buying someone something that I know isn’t good for them. I personally, am very crunchy, so buying a Bath and Body Works candle or a bottle of mall perfume is just out of the question. I tried my best to compile a list of more natural options with varying price ranges (and did my best to include all the mom stereotypes I could think of).

Calling All the Moms
No matter if you are shopping for your wife, mother, sister, friend, or mother figure, I hope this sparks some lovely ideas for the special mother in your life.
The New Mom
This is that woman who just had her whole life changed in the best way as she welcomed a new life into the world. Depending on how long ago the baby was born she might still be in the first few weeks of transitioning. She’s getting to know her baby and her body again and learning how to be a parent alongside her spouse. Some thoughtful gift ideas are:
A self care package or a massage for her to enjoy a few moments of pampering.
Offering to pay for her first set of good quality hair products. My sweet friend Elizabeth is with Monet and while I haven’t used them for myself yet, I cannot deny the results I have seen from others. Click here for a hair quiz to get her started. (If you have questions about Monet you can talk with Elizabeth over on Instagram.)
Asking if she has any parenting or mothering books she wants to get and picking a few from that list. Those are things she might not have thought to get while pregnant.
Some whole food supplements like this grassfed bundle or this one which is different superfoods for whole body health. We give up such a huge amount of minerals during pregnancy and birth and most women are severely depleted.
The Mother Figure
Is there a person in your life who has been like a mother to you for years? Maybe even for your whole life? If so, she also deserves to be loved on and shown your appreciation this Mother’s Day.
A puzzle would not only give her something fun to work on but also give you an excuse to hang out more so you can work on it together.
An essential oil diffuser a is a beautiful way to make a home smell lovely without all the chemicals of candles. Not only do they make the home smell lovely but some of the oils can have benefits such as a calm mind or boosted immune system. Far and Wild oils is a high quality cand clean oils brand. They have a diffuser bundle with a few oils already included.
Getting the two of you tickets to a play or the opera would be anther lovely way to spend time with her.
The Grandma
Grandmothers need love on this special day as well! Not only are they mothers but they were able to watch their children become parents as well, which makes the day all the sweeter. A few thoughtful gifts are:
Custom engraved bracelets or necklaces set with her grandbaby’s birthstones.
A day out with the family to enjoy time together, like a day trip or a picnic at a park.
A basket filled with gardening items, or all the ingredients she needs to make homemade chai tea, topped off with a dainty new teacup.
Personalized notes or hand drawn pictures from her grandchildren.
The Empty Nesters
The moms who have gone through the highs and lows of raising children and watched them leave her home one by one. Getting to spend quality time with her children is always a wonderful gift. Some ideas are:
Family pictures. Not only does the family get time together, but she also gets to walk away with memories she can hang on the walls for years to come.
Going out to lunch or to the movies.
Going shopping for indoor plants or things for her garden.
The Super Crunchy Mom
I think everyone knows someone who fits into this category. She is careful about what she eats, talks about how toxic this and that is, and won’t drink tap water if her life depended on it. (Hmm, sounds a bit too much like me) Some things that she would probably love:
A Pranamat. These things are incredible! If you don’t know what they are it’s a mat covered with small spikes so when you lay on it, you are getting an acupressure session. Its good for back pain, headaches, cellulite, and extra energy. (Click here to save 10% on any set).
Going shopping with you at the farmers market and being treated to a few things she wouldn’t usually buy for herself.
A few of the books on her list or an online course that she has had her eye on for a while.
The Boujee mom
The mom who always looks put together. She walks in with her hair on point, her nails done, and a cup of coffee in hand. There are ways she can enjoy all her favorite things in a more healthy or natural way. Some of these swaps are:
Instead of using gel or solvent based nail polish she can switch to something more natural like this.
Switching her chemical filled cosmetics to something like Crunchi makeup. All the options with none of the harmful additives.
She may enjoy her coffee shop runs too much to give them up, but if she ever makes coffee at home, replace her coffee with a brand that is organic and mold free.
Essential oils come stright from plants and are the perfect alternative for her bottle of fragrance. This is a set of four rollers made specifically to be floral perfume!
The Outdoor mom
This is the mom who would much rather be outside than in. Getting her things she can enjoy outside will be much better than trying to get her away from her favorite place.
If she is into hiking, a new backpack or fanny pack might be just what she needs.
A metal or glass water bottle would be a great gift so it can replace that old plastic one she carries around. (Because we all know the dangers of plastic).
Barefoot shoes allow your feet to have the room to expand the way they should be without smushing out toes out of alignment. These would be so good especially if she is outside all the time and on her feet.
Getting things for her garden or planning a day to go berry or apple picking would be incredibly thoughtful.
The Wine Mom
This is the sweet mama who is overwhelmed and reaches for a glass of wine a few times a week to help her unwind. Some sweet ideas for this mama are:
An offer to watch her kids so she can have a date with her husband. Give her some time to reconnect so she can feel more like herself.
A facial so she feels pampered and loved as she enjoys a few minutes of quiet all to her self.
If she is the creative type getting her a mead kit would be super cool. (Mead is like wine but instead of fermenting grapes its made from fermented honey). It’s a way she would get to make one of her favorite drinks with her own two hands.
Some personalized wine glasses that would maker her smile.
The Homemaker Mom
This is the mother who pours constantly into her home and her family. Her home may smell of freshly baked bread and its tidy and welcoming. She would probably really enjoy:
Beeswax wraps. These are a natural alternative to plastic wrap and look so beautiful wrapped around cheese, bowls, and fresh bread.
Mason jars. They can be cups, sourdough containers, storage, and even decor. You can never have too many jars, right?
A set of nice wooden spoons or a wooden sourdough stirrer.
Organizational baskets. These will make her job easier and add a simple charm to her home.
The Romantic Mom
This mother romanticizes everything in her life, every little moment. Each corner of her home has little trinkets that bring her joy. Leather bound books, candlesticks, and other bits and bobs you would expect to find in an old novel or a period piece drama. Some things she may enjoy adorning her home with are:
100% Beeswax candles. They are free from the dyes and chemicals in common candles but have a natural light honey scent. They look beautiful on a bedside table or tucked on little shelves around the house.
Jewlery that is whimsical and carefree as she is; dainty gold or silver jewelry to sit upon her neck or wrists.
Artwork that inspires the soul. My dear friend Vanessa has some of the most beautiful artwork I’ve ever seen. So many of her pieces capture the beauty of motherhood in ways that words cannot express. Check out her Etsy page here. (Even if you aren’t buying for a romantic mother, you should consider getting some for your own home. She is beyond remarkable.)
The Mother in Mourning
This day also comes with great pain for some. Those of us who have lost little ones far before their time or without ever getting the chance to even hold them in our arms. Give them something to celebrate the sweet souls that are no longer here. Some sweet ideas are:
Essential oils to provide comforting smells wafting through her house.
Jewlery engraved with the names of her lost littles, or cut glass or gems to represent each one of them for her to wear around her neck.
Local flowers that will brighten this day that may be very dark and difficult for her to bear.
If she has specifically had a miscarriage, you might consider getting her something from Evermore Blooms. They are a nonprofit who send bouquets to those who have lost a baby prior to 20 weeks. The proceeds from the purchases go to cover the costs of the flowers.
Final Thoughts
I really do hope these ideas sparked some inspiration for you. Enjoy pampering the special mothers in your life, but remember, you can celebrate them any time of the year.
If you made it all the way to the end, what mom stereotypes did I miss?

Good suggestions! Thanks for putting this together
