Hello!
Welcome! Some know me as Sam; others call me the Unhurried Homemaker. The goal of this little corner of the internet is to inspire and encourage others. It is to help mothers see the joy and magic in the mundane moments, to fill your tables with (relatively) healthy homemade dishes, and to allow you to see how clean living can be achieved one step at a time. I want everyone to feel welcome here.

Why Unhurried Homemaker?
I am a stay-at-home mom. My “job” is caring for the children, educating them, and providing nourishing meals. I am the homemaker. I make the home an enjoyable place to be. That is through simple things like keeping it clean and nicely decorated, to providing meals that everyone enjoys, to cultivating an atmosphere of joy and thankfulness.
Once I became a mother, I realized how quickly time really flies by. I starting being more intentional and trying to do better about living in the moment. There were things that I wanted to incorporate and things that I wanted to never do. I didn’t want to be consumed by social media only to look up and realize I was missing out on the lives of my children. Or rush through things to get to the next and miss the lovely little moments right in front of me.
I am of the firm belief that life is rarely remembered by the big things. It is instead made up of a million little moments. So instead of rushing to get from one holiday, birthday, vacation, etc. to the next, why don’t we just slow down? We can shift our mindsets and be able to enjoy all the little moments that are otherwise passing us by without a second glance.
This is why I wanted “Unhurried Homemaker” to be my brand. Every time I look at the name, I am reminded of that goal to slow down. And hopefully, through some sourdough recipe or educational post about clean living you are inspired to slow down a little bit more as well.
My Why
My dream is to live on a little piece of land. To fill it with the sounds of laughing children, the smells of freshly baked bread, and the things to live a (mostly) self-sustaining life. We want to have chickens, bees, sheep, rabbits, and a plentiful garden. We currently live in an apartment so I am trying to utilize my time well and learn all I can, so I am well prepared as we step into those dreams.
I started this not only to help others, but also to help our family. There are ways that I can make money through this little platform. It is the goal to have it used for savings and to relieve some of the burden of being the sole financial provider of the family. Any time there are links I do get a small commission from them with no additional cost to you. If you are curious about that, click here to learn more about how we use affiliate links.
It is also a passion of mine to educate other women about how to get the most out of this life we are given. Living a healthy life and avoiding toxins so we can be healthier for longer. Truly embracing motherhood and the struggles it contains and thriving instead of surviving. Making meals that don’t just taste good but also can fuel the body or spread joy to others.
My Background
My family moved from the corn fields of Illinois to the beautiful and wild state of Alaska when I was 10. I was there almost ten years. During that time, I graduated culinary arts school and met and married my wonderful husband.
Very shortly after getting married in 2020 we moved to Tennessee where my family had relocated to a few years before. We enjoyed our time in the south, made some incredible memories, and formed strong friendships. We also welcomed our son into the word about a year later. However, the mountains of Alaska had captured our hearts, and we returned in 2023. We also grew our family with the addition of our sweet little girl the following summer.
We have been here in Alaska ever since, soaking up the beauty of this vast place and enjoying so many adventures as a family. Many of my blog posts reflect my deep joy of berry picking. Recipes like blueberry buckle, and homemade poptarts are some of our family favorites.
More about me
I truly love embracing my place in life. I am inspired by people like Ma Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie, and the Proverbs 31 woman. Sharing meals with friends and family, being barefoot, and learning bring me such joy. We fill our home with things free of toxic chemicals and make things with our hands to add natural beauty to our home. I am a firm believer in homeopathic remedies and natural solutions to just about every problem. We use elderberry syrup, detox baths, wet socks, and fermented garlic honey before ever reaching for antibiotics.
I also love adding to my list of skills. Some may call them hobbies, but I think that a hobby should be defined as something that you enjoy but does not produce anything or bless anyone at the end of it. I would consider something like birdwatching to fall into the hobby category because it is something that can bring one joy, but rarely can you have something to show or bless someone with at the end of it.
My favorite skills include crocheting, spinning fiber into yarn, water coloring, cooking, baking, and pottery. I am hoping to expand it to include knitting, herbalism, and sewing in the next few years. I am also instilling a love of arts and working with our hands into my children, so they see it as a blessing instead of a chore. “Projects” are something to be excited about and learn from instead of something to dread.

I was so overwhelmed and intimidated when I first started sourdough. I was determined to find a way to enjoy its art without it being as stressful as it appeared online. Once I figured out all the details, I wrote my first eBook, sharing my love for baking with others and teaching the process of “The Art of Sourdough“.
Follow along for our favorite recipes, natural solutions, encouragement, and inspiration. You can follow me on Instagram where I share our daily lives a little bit more. The beauty and the messes. I also send out a weekly email. It has the newest posts, some updates, and a little kernel of truth to pause and ponder on that week.
Join me and let’s learn more about this great world we live in just a little bit more!
